Cevapi (pronounced chae-vap or chae-vap-ee) are hand-shaped, skin-less sausages that originate from the Balkan region and are popular worldwide. Typically made from fresh minced pork, veal and beef mixed with onions and spices, the meat is then shaped into sausage-like cylinders and grilled over charcoal or on a greased frying pan. The longer it is barbecued, the better its flavour becomes. Cevapi are usually served with flatbread, ajvar or kajmak and onions. You’ll never miss the smell of some grilled Chevapi firing away at a Croatian BBQ, the classic combo dish of Zelje (Grated Cabbage), Ajvar (Capsicum Relish), and Croatian Potato Salad with Cevapi is a must!
